Power Grid was probably the longest duration game when it joined BSW. It is a strategy board game, with a new edition released in 2006. The players own an electric company, which supplies cities in Germany or the USA (France or Italy in the 2006 release). There are several types of power station which may be bought at auction during the game, to supply many cities across the chosen country of play. Raw materials must be purchased on the free market to power these stations. Cities then need to be linked via a network to provide a demand for the power generated.
Power Grid used game tips to help, in the first edition. The new edition has been improved with better graphics and easier to select cards. This is the first game from cult game author In the board play world it is the first play of cult author Friedemann Friese, who also wrote Fearsome Floors, Friesematenten, Fresh Fish and Fishes Fluppen Frikadellen.
The first impression of Power Grid is that it appears easy to play. It has an interesting mechanic in that the person who leads must choose to buy a new power station for auction first. This can create a disadvantage. The game situations in 2 to 6 player games gives it a long-term attraction.
